As Director of Recruiting and Business Development for Janney, Jeff Smith hires experienced Financial Advisors while providing existing advisors with Janney’s proprietary practice management solutions. With the desire and skills to build relationships effectively and a predisposition to connect with people, Jeff has proven to be successful in leading the Private Client Group’s efforts with organic growth and the recruitment of advisors to the firm.
With over 20 years of Wealth Management experience, Jeff joined Janney in late 2012 as Complex Manager for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, overseeing offices in both Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, Virginia. His prior experience includes serving as a Branch Manager at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and as Director of Sales for Legg Mason, which included leading the merger of the Alexandria, VA Legg Mason office with Smith Barney. Later in his career, he oversaw the unification of the Smith Barney branch with Morgan Stanley. In his current role as Director of Recruiting and Business. Development, Jeff continues to leverage his previous experience and Janney’s unique strengths to increase the Firm’s success far beyond Washington D.C.
Jeff graduated from Towson University in 1990 with a degree in Economics. As a proud alum, he serves on the Towson University Foundation Board of Directors. Jeff resides in both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cambridge, Maryland with his wife Emily, and two beautiful daughters Hannah and Ellie. He spends his free time following Baltimore sports and Capitals hockey, and vacuuming daily as a result of owning two golden retrievers, Benson and Camden.
