Morgan Stanley, Merrill, UBS Lose Teams to J.P. Morgan, RayJay and Rockefeller
Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley lost teams headed by 30-year veterans to Raymond James Financial and J.P. Morgan Securities, while Rockefeller Capital recruited a broker with 28 years of experience from UBS Wealth Management USA in the past few days.
Robert Sheriff, a 40-year brokerage industry veteran who was a senior advisor on Bregman’s team, said he is remaining with Morgan Stanley.
Bregman spent the first 18 years of his brokerage career at Bear, Stearns, the nucleus of J.P. Morgan Securities’ retail brokerage business outside of its parent’s bank branches. He shifted to Smith Barney in 2008, a year before it was absorbed into Morgan Stanley, where he spent the last decade, according to BrokerCheck.
Kate Bregman Anton began her brokerage career in 2012 at MorganStanley, according to her BrokerCheck record. Rowe, who entered the securities industry in 1982 with Merrill Lynch, spent more than 20 years at Prudential Securities and Wachovia Securities before joining Smith Barney in 2007.
In Virginia Beach, Raymond James Financial rolled out the welcome mat in its employee channel to Michael Borza two weeks ago. Borza spent the last eight-and-a-half years of his 31-year career at Merrill Lynch, where he generated about $1.7 million of revenue last year on about $190 million on client investment assets, he said.
He joined with client associate Angela Toney. Her husband, Mark, an advisor on their Merrill team, also made the jump to Raymond James, but is setting up an autonomous practice there.
Rockefeller on Friday hired Laura Pennington to join the Washington, DC, office that it established in September with a five-advisor Merrill Lynch team. She joined after 11 years at UBS’s office in the nation’s capital, where she produced about $1.2 million of revenue on a $250 million book, said a person familiar with her practice. Pennington began her career in 1991 with PaineWebber, and also worked at Smith Barney, CIBC and Morgan Stanley, according to her BrokerCheck history.
Sheriff, Robert Bregman’s former partner, began his brokerage career with L.F. Rothschild in 1980, and has been with Morgan Stanley and predecessor Smith Barney since 2000, according to BrokerCheck.
